Fresh48 Photography at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Queens

Long Island Jewish Medical Center — part of the Northwell Health system — is one of the premier delivery programs in Queens. Families from Jamaica, Flushing, Fresh Meadows, Forest Hills, Bayside, and across the borough deliver here. If you're among them and you want your baby's first hours preserved, this page is for you.

What a Fresh48 Session at Long Island Jewish Looks Like

Your baby has arrived. You've been moved to your postpartum room at LIJ. The monitors have quieted. The room has begun to feel a little bit yours.

When you're ready — whether that's four hours after delivery or eighteen — you let us know.

We come to you at Long Island Jewish. We find your room. We begin.

The session is documentary: no setup, no direction, no performance required. We move quietly through your space for 1.5 to 2.5 hours, photographing what is already happening — your baby's face in those first hours, the way your arms hold them, the light in your specific room, the small ceremonial moments that exist whether there is a camera there or not.

Your gallery arrives within 5 to 7 business days — 10 to 30 fully edited images.

Long Island Jewish Medical Center: What to Know

LIJ is a Northwell Health campus with a high-volume Labor and Delivery program and strong clinical reputation. For Fresh48 families:

  • Visitor access: LIJ follows standard visitor protocols on the postpartum floor. We will coach you through exactly what to tell your care team on admission so our access is smooth and expected.

  • Room type: LIJ has private and shared postpartum accommodations. If a private room is available and within your options, it typically allows a more relaxed session environment.

  • Timing: We recommend planning your session for the morning hours if your delivery timing allows — natural light is best before noon.

Fresh48 After a C-Section at LIJ

Long Island Jewish performs a high volume of both scheduled and unplanned cesarean deliveries. If you're having a C-section, your Fresh48 session absolutely goes forward — timing simply adjusts to your recovery.

Surgery ends. Recovery room. Once you're in your postpartum room and feel settled, you message us. We arrive and photograph your first hours with your baby — the first real hold, the skin-to-skin, the quiet that arrives after the adrenaline drops.

What Families Delivering at LIJ Often Ask

How far in advance should I book my Fresh48 session at LIJ? Between 20 and 30 weeks is ideal. If you're already in your third trimester, reach out immediately — we work to accommodate late bookings when possible.

How does the photographer get access to the postpartum floor? You add us to your approved visitor list on admission. We'll give you the exact language to use with your care team. This is a straightforward request that LIJ nursing staff handle regularly.

What if labor goes long and I'm not ready until day two? The session is on your timeline. The "48" in Fresh48 is the outer boundary, not a deadline. We have photographed sessions at 8 hours old and at 40 hours old. If you need rest on day one, we come day two. We will be ready.

What should I bring or prepare? Very little. A clean swaddle or white onesie for your baby. A comfortable top for you — something you feel like yourself in. We handle everything else.

Can my mother or other family members be photographed? Yes. Grandparent moments and sibling introductions are some of the most moving images we make. Let us know in advance who you'd like included.

How quickly will I receive the photos? Within 5 to 7 business days. Rush 48-hour delivery is available.
