Fresh48 Photography at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City

Mount Sinai Hospital sits at the edge of Central Park on the Upper East Side — one of the city's most storied medical institutions, and the place where thousands of New York families welcome their babies each year.

We've photographed sessions at Mount Sinai many times. The postpartum rooms, the light, the particular quiet of those floors — we know them. If you're planning to deliver at Mount Sinai and want someone there for your first hours, here's what you need to know.

What a Fresh48 Session at Mount Sinai Looks Like

Your baby has arrived. You've been moved to your postpartum room in Mount Sinai's labor and delivery wing. The nurses have completed their initial assessments, and the room has begun to settle into something quieter and more yours.

When you feel ready — whether that's three hours after delivery or twelve — you let us know.

We arrive at Mount Sinai, find your room, and we begin. The session is documentary: we don't direct, we don't pose, we don't bring lighting equipment or props. We work with the light in your room, the moments that are already happening, and the real emotional landscape of your family's first hours.

We stay 1.5 to 2.5 hours. We deliver your gallery within 5 to 7 business days.

About Delivering at Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai Hospital's Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science is one of the most respected in New York City. The hospital is well known for its range of birth options — including a strong midwifery program alongside its full OB services — and its postpartum floor is designed to support families through the first days.

Mount Sinai also has one of the city's largest neonatal intensive care units for families who need it.

For Fresh48 families:

  • Midwifery deliveries: Many families delivering with Mount Sinai's midwifery team find Fresh48 a natural extension of their birth philosophy. Documentary, real, uninterventional. We've photographed many midwife-attended births and their postpartum sessions.

  • OB deliveries: Whether you're working with a private OB or Mount Sinai's hospital team, the postpartum session process is the same. Your photographer arrives after delivery, once you're settled in your postpartum room.

  • High-risk and NICU families: Mount Sinai has an exceptional NICU. If your baby requires NICU care, please reach out to us directly. We have photographed NICU Fresh48 sessions and approach these contexts with full sensitivity to the medical team, the baby, and the family.

Fresh48 After a C-Section at Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai performs a significant volume of both scheduled and emergency C-sections. We have photographed Fresh48 sessions following both.

After your surgery, once you're moved to your postpartum room and cleared by your care team, you reach out to us. We arrive and document your first hours in the room — the first hold, the first skin-to-skin, the first feed, the quiet that follows.

The session after a cesarean is not limited or shortened. It is simply timed differently. Many of the most tender images we've made have come from postpartum rooms in the hours after a C-section.

What Families Delivering at Mount Sinai Often Ask

Does Mount Sinai allow professional photographers on the postpartum floor? Yes, with your care team's knowledge and approval. We recommend noting your Fresh48 photographer in your birth plan and flagging it with your admitting nurse. This is a routine request; Mount Sinai's postpartum staff is familiar with it.

What if I'm delivering with Mount Sinai's midwifery team — does that change anything about Fresh48? Not at all. The session happens after delivery, in your postpartum room, which is the same regardless of who attended your birth. We love working alongside families who have worked with midwives — there is often a beautiful alignment in values and approach.

What if my baby is admitted to Mount Sinai's NICU? Please reach out to us directly. We are experienced with NICU contexts and will work entirely according to your medical team's guidance and your comfort level. NICU sessions require extra preparation and sensitivity, and we are glad to discuss what's possible.

Can I book a Fresh48 session if I'm planning a birth at Mount Sinai Beth Israel instead? Mount Sinai Beth Israel is a different campus. We serve families there too — see the Beth Israel page.

What if the session happens on a weekend or holiday? We are on call. Weekend and holiday deliveries are the same as any other day for us. New York's birth rate does not take weekends off, and neither do we.

What if I'm not in a private room? We've photographed beautiful sessions in semi-private rooms. We are practiced at working quietly in shared spaces and creating intimate images in less-than-ideal conditions. A private room is a preference, not a requirement.

How far in advance should I book? Between 20 and 30 weeks is ideal. If you're already in your third trimester, reach out now — we'll do everything we can to accommodate you.
