Prospect Park Maternity Photography, Brooklyn
Prospect Park is Brooklyn's park — 585 acres of meadow, forest, lake, and architecture, designed by the same team that created Central Park. For Brooklyn families, it is the backyard. The place you walk on Sunday mornings, the place you'll bring your baby in a stroller this time next year.
Photographing your maternity session here is not just a beautiful choice. It is a meaningful one.
The Best Spots in Prospect Park for Maternity Photos
The Long Meadow The 90-acre meadow at the northern end of the park is one of the longest unobstructed open spaces in any urban park in the United States. At golden hour, the light rolls across the grass and creates a warmth that is extraordinary for portraits. Families, couples, a lone figure in a flowing dress — the meadow makes everyone look extraordinary.
The Boathouse The Beaux-Arts Boathouse on the Lullwater is one of Brooklyn's most elegant architectural landmarks. The combination of the stone facade, the water, and the surrounding trees creates a backdrop that feels more like Italy than Brooklyn — which is exactly why it photographs so beautifully.
The Ravine The only remaining forested ravine in Brooklyn, with a stream and walking path surrounded by old-growth trees. For couples who want something intimate, forested, and completely removed from the city feeling, the Ravine is one of our favorite spots.
The Rose Garden (Cranford Rose Garden) In late May and early June, the Cranford Rose Garden is in full bloom — a wall of roses behind which a pregnant woman at 32 weeks is one of the most beautiful things we have ever photographed.
The Tennis House / Picnic House Area The eastern end of the park offers architectural variety — stone buildings, arched windows, and covered archways — that work beautifully for maternity portraits in any weather.
When to Shoot in Prospect Park
Golden hour (1 hour before sunset): The Long Meadow at golden hour is our top recommendation for Prospect Park maternity sessions. The light, the open space, the feeling of Brooklyn around you — it is difficult to make a bad image here at this time of day.
We recommend weekday evenings when the park is quieter. Weekend golden hour can be crowded with families, sports, and picnics. For a more relaxed session, mid-week evenings in spring and fall are ideal.
Sunrise: The Ravine and the Boathouse area at sunrise offer a completely different Prospect Park — quiet, mist-lit, almost otherworldly. Less dramatic than DUMBO at sunrise but deeply beautiful.
For Park Slope, Prospect Heights, and Crown Heights Families
Prospect Park is naturally the first choice for families who live in the neighborhoods that surround it. If you're in Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Flatbush, Crown Heights, or Ditmas Park, this park is already yours.
Many families who book a Prospect Park maternity session also book their newborn session at home shortly after — and the connection between your outdoor maternity images and your in-home newborn images is one of the most emotionally powerful things we create together.

What to Wear for Prospect Park Maternity Photos
Prospect Park's natural settings work with almost any palette:
Golden hour sessions: warm tones — ivory, cream, blush, rust, terracotta
Forested sessions: soft neutrals and muted greens complement the light filtering through trees
The Boathouse / architectural spots: dusty blues, deep sage, or white gowns contrast beautifully with the warm stone
We send a full wardrobe guide when you book, with suggestions specific to your session date and location within the park.
