Delivering at Bridgeport Hospital — What to Know
Labor and Delivery is on the 5th floor, where you labor, deliver and recover in the same private room before moving to a private postpartum room with its own bathroom and shower. Two of the labor rooms have whirlpool tubs for laboring (not for water birth), anesthesia is available around the clock, and your care comes from either a midwife or a physician depending on your practice. The 20-bed Level 3 NICU is the Bridgeport campus of Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, so a baby who needs extra care stays in the same building.
Bridgeport's published policy allows up to three support people during labor, and it states that a doula counts as one of them — so you can have your partner, one more person and your doula. Overnight, one care partner stays; after a cesarean, one person joins you in the OR and recovery. We confirm the current rules with your care team before your due date.
