Delivering at Overlook — What to Know
Babies are born in the Frank and Mimi Walsh Maternity Center, whose renovated labor and delivery unit opened in 2024. Overlook's new East Building, completed in January 2025, houses the Newborn and Family Care Unit on the 6th floor, where every postpartum room is private. Certified nurse-midwives from Atlantic Medical Group deliver at Overlook alongside the obstetricians, and the Level III NICU — designated an Intensive perinatal center by New Jersey — means a baby who needs extra care stays in the same building. Overlook has been a Baby-Friendly hospital since 2015, and both U.S. News & World Report (High Performing in Maternity Care) and Newsweek recognized it for 2026.
Atlantic Health's published policy allows one designated support person with you through labor, delivery and your whole postpartum stay, and a doula on your care team does not count toward that limit — so your partner and your doula can both be with you. Atlantic Health asks doulas to show proof of certification, which we provide. We confirm the current rules with your care team before your due date.

Maternity session at home or outdoors. At 32–36 weeks, in your home or outdoors at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum or Briant Park in Summit, a few minutes from the hospital, or at the Watchung Reservation.
