Family Photographer on the Upper West Side, NYC

The Upper West Side is a neighborhood that was essentially designed for family life — Central Park on one side, Riverside Park on the other, wide sidewalks, brownstones with stoops where kids sit in the afternoon. It's one of the most family-dense neighborhoods in Manhattan, and for family photography, it's one of the most beautiful.

We photograph Upper West Side families regularly. We know the light in Riverside Park at 6pm in October. We know which parts of Central Park stay quiet on weekend mornings. We know the specific warmth of a pre-war apartment with west-facing windows on a late afternoon.

Central Park for UWS Families

The west side of Central Park — Sheep Meadow, the Great Lawn, the area around Bethesda Fountain — is essentially your backyard if you live on the Upper West Side. For family sessions, we use it accordingly: not as a destination but as an extension of the neighborhood.

Golden hour sessions in Sheep Meadow, when the open grass goes amber and the light comes low and warm from the west, are consistently among the most beautiful family images we make anywhere in the city. Weekday sessions have a quieter, more personal feel than weekend shoots at the same locations.

Riverside Park

Riverside Park is underused by photographers and that's part of what makes it so good. The promenade along the Hudson at sunset, the terraced garden areas in the 90s, the quiet north end near the 100s — these offer genuine beauty without the Central Park foot traffic. For Upper West Side families who want something that feels more private, Riverside Park is often the right answer.

In-Home Sessions on the Upper West Side

Pre-war Manhattan apartments on the Upper West Side often have exceptional light — high ceilings, large windows, the specific afternoon light that comes through a west-facing living room. In-home sessions here capture the real life of a Manhattan family: the playroom corner, the kitchen on a Saturday, the light in the hallway that you've stopped noticing but that photographs beautifully.
