Fresh48 Photography at Yale New Haven Hospital, Connecticut

Yale New Haven Hospital delivers about 6,000 babies a year, more than any other hospital in Connecticut, in the Labor and Birth Unit on the fourth floor of the York Street campus. Many of those families want their first days together documented right there, before the drive home.

A Fresh48 session is a relaxed, documentary photo session in your postpartum room during your baby's first hours or days. If you're delivering at Yale New Haven, here is what a Fresh48 session with YourCherish looks like.

What a Fresh48 Session at Yale New Haven Looks Like

After your delivery, once you've been moved to your postpartum room and had time to settle, you let us know you're ready.

We arrive at Yale New Haven, find you, and we begin.

There is no instruction. No setup. No request for you to perform or prepare anything. We move quietly through your room for 1.5 to 2.5 hours, documenting what is already happening: the way your baby looks in those first hours, the way you look at them, the first feeds, the first holds, the first quiet.

Your gallery arrives within 5 to 7 business days, with 10 to 30 fully edited images.

About Yale New Haven

Yale New Haven is an academic medical center with an obstetrics and gynecology program ranked #4 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The Labor and Birth Unit has 11 labor and delivery rooms, and postpartum care happens in private rooms where you and your baby room in together, which is exactly where a Fresh48 session takes place.

The hospital's Level IV NICU, one of only two in Connecticut, is a 68-bed unit that includes couplet rooms for parents and babies. We adapt the session to whatever your first days look like, including time in the NICU when staff allow it.

Yale New Haven is designated Baby-Friendly, so rooming-in and early feeding are the norm. Visitor rules for the postpartum floor are posted by the hospital and can change, so we confirm them with you before your due date.

What Families Delivering at Yale New Haven Often Ask

Can a photographer visit the postpartum floor at Yale New Haven? Yale New Haven posts its visitation guidelines separately and updates them from time to time. A photographer visits as one of your guests, with your approval, so we check the current rules with you before your due date and always follow staff guidance on the day.

How do I add the photographer as a visitor? Mention at admission that you have a photographer booked for a postpartum session. Your nurse can tell you the current process, and we can help you with what to say.

What if I'm in a semi-private room? Postpartum rooms at Yale New Haven are private, so you will have your own space for the session. We still work quietly and keep our footprint small.

What if my baby arrives earlier than expected? From the moment you're booked, we're on call. When your baby arrives, you reach out when you're ready and we come.

What if I don't feel photogenic after delivery? Almost every client has this thought. The way you look right after having a baby is not something to apologize for. It is something to keep.
