Delivering at Yale New Haven — What to Know

The Labor and Birth Unit has 11 labor and delivery rooms, three operating and delivery suites, a recovery room and a five-bed triage area, with private postpartum rooms where you and your baby room in together. Certified nurse-midwives attend births alongside obstetricians, so you can choose midwifery care within a major academic hospital.

Yale New Haven has one of only two Level IV NICUs in Connecticut, a 68-bed unit opened in 2018 that is the largest in the state, and its obstetrics and gynecology program is ranked #4 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital is also designated Baby-Friendly.

Maternity arrivals go through the Smilow entrance at 35 Park Street during the day and the Children's Emergency Department at 853 Howard Avenue overnight; staff escort you up to Labor and Birth. Support-person and doula rules are set by the hospital and can change, so we confirm them with your care team before your due date.

YourCherish provides doula support in English, Russian, and Spanish — ensuring full communication and advocacy regardless of your primary language.
