Fresh48 & Newborn Photographer Near Columbia Presbyterian, NYC
Columbia University Irving Medical Center — part of the NewYork-Presbyterian system and located in Washington Heights at 168th Street — is one of the country's premier academic medical centers. Its maternal-fetal medicine program is exceptional, and for families with high-risk pregnancies or complex medical needs, it is often the clear choice in New York City.
It is also a hospital that families from all over Manhattan — and beyond — travel to specifically for its level of care. We photograph Fresh48 sessions there and provide birth doula support, and we travel to your neighborhood afterward for in-home newborn sessions wherever you live.
Delivering at Columbia — What to Know
The Columbia campus at 168th Street is large and can feel labyrinthine if you've never been. The labor and delivery floor and the postpartum unit have distinct characters — L&D moves fast, as it does at every major academic center; the postpartum rooms, especially on the higher floors with the Hudson River views, are among the most beautiful hospital rooms we photograph in.
The culture at Columbia tends toward clinical excellence over boutique warmth — which is exactly what you want in a high-risk or complex delivery, and which also means the staff are generally accustomed to doulas and photographers as part of a family's support system.
Fresh48 at Columbia
Because Columbia is in Washington Heights, some families hesitate about logistics — how quickly can a photographer get there? We know the fastest routes by car and subway from every part of Manhattan and Brooklyn. We have photographed Fresh48 sessions at Columbia at 3am on a Tuesday and at noon on a Saturday. Distance is not an issue.
You reach out when you're settled. We come. The session works the same way it does at any Manhattan hospital.
In-Home Newborn Sessions After Columbia
After discharge, we come to you — wherever you live. Many Columbia families are in Washington Heights, Inwood, or the Bronx. Others travel from the Upper West Side, Harlem, or Astoria. We serve all of these neighborhoods for in-home newborn sessions within the first two weeks.
Washington Heights apartments, particularly in the pre-war buildings along Fort Washington Avenue and Cabrini Boulevard, often have extraordinary light. Inwood — quieter, greener, underrated — has a specific quality of afternoon light that photographs beautifully.
